Six months ago, Remezcla made the decision to stop covering Donald Trump – the most openly bigoted, ignorant and dangerous presidential candidate we’ve seen in our lifetimes –  and instead use our platform to highlight the resistance, activism and mobilization of those working to oppose him. From the California high school students who won the right to wear “Dump Trump” T-shirts to school; to the workers at the Las Vegas Trump International Hotel fighting to unionize; to the taco trucks that began registering citizens to vote in Texas and Arizona, Latinos have been organizing in record numbers to defeat a man who has threatened, insulted and belittled our community.

We are hopeful that these efforts will come to fruition at the polls tomorrow. And we’re teaming up with Mijente for a Trump Piñata Election Watch night event in our Bushwick headquarters, so that after you get out to beat Trump at the polls you can beat him at our party too.

Mijente has been doing important community organizing work – you may remember their Make America Mexico Again and Taco Trucks on Every Corner fundraising hats –  and they’ve been working hard to make piñatas for a cathartic election night thwacking. Come through for music, complimentary brews from Dyckman Beer, games, and a place to watch the election results roll in en familia.

Early vote statistics suggest that this election is already a historic one for Latinos, with an unprecedented Latino early voter turnout in swing states like Nevada, Florida, Texas, Arizona and Colorado. Let’s make sure to live up to that promise and flex the power of our political voice.
