In the last few years, Cardi B has had an incredible glo up. While we’re still waiting for her to land her first Vogue cover (we already saw her charming the glasses off of Anna Wintour), we’re excited to see that Cosmopolitan has made her its April cover girl. With the issue not on stands until March 6, Cosmo has given us a sneak peek into the conversation between the Trini-Dominican rapper and writer Jazmine Hughes.
Following months of speculation about her relationship with fiancé Offset after his alleged sex tape, Cardi basically told people to mind their own business. “It’s like everybody is coming down my neck like, ‘Why are you not leaving him? You have low self-esteem.’ I don’t have low self-esteem … I know I look good. I know I’m rich, I know I’m talented. I know I could get any man I want – any basketball player, football player. But I want to work out my shit with my man, and I don’t go to explain why. I’m not your property. This is my life … I’m going to take my time, and I’m going to decide on my decision … It’s not right, what he fucking did – but people don’t know what I did, ’cause I ain’t no angel.”
Cardi also explained why she continues to talk about her past as a stripper. With society looking down on sex workers, Cardi wants to change public perception about those who enter the sex industry.
“Ya’ll don’t respect me because of [my past as a stripper] and y’all going to respect these strippers from now on … Just because somebody was a stripper don’t mean they don’t have no brain,” she added.
While the details on the interview are scant for the time being, Hughes did reveal a little about her lunch with Cardi.
