On several occasions, President Donald Trump has disrespected members of the media. With Trump labeling everything he doesn’t like as “fake news,” he is discounting the hard work of members of the press. Today, during a press conference, Trump showed his disdain for journalists once again.
When he called on ABC reporter Cecilia Vega, Trump tried to joke that she was “in a state of shock” that he picked her, she replied, “I’m not, thank you Mr. President.” Trump, who apparently misheard her, then said, “That’s OK, I know you’re not thinking, you never do.” After his snide comment, she asked for clarification, which he did not provide.
When she finally asked her question about the FBI investigation of the sexual assault allegations leveled against Brett Kavanaugh, his Supreme Court pick, he objected, stating that it had nothing to do with trade. But as she, and many others pointed out, a press conference means reporters get to ask whatever they want.
