We’re excited to announce Remezcla and MySpace Latino’s En Tu Ciudad Tour, a concert series featuring diverse up-and-coming local Latino musical acts together on one stage. The En Tu Ciudad Tour kicks off this Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Austin’s Mohawk club with live performances by Girl In A Coma, Piñata Protest, Este Vato and Peligrosa All Stars DJs. The show will be hosted by Paul Saucido (from ME TV, Rock y Roll Dia, and now Saucido Slant)

Acclaimed San Antonio indie rockers Girl In A Coma (GIAC) will be headlining the Austin installment of the En Tu Ciudad Tour. Comprised of sisters Nina and Phanie Diaz, together with their friend Jenn Alva, the group got together while they were still in high school. Nina’s powerful voice and the trio’s impressive songwriting skills from their debut album Both Before I’m Gone have won them legions of fans, including their own idol, Morrissey, with whom they toured extensively throughout the US and Europe. Signed to Joan Jett’s Blackheart Records, Most recently, Girl in a Coma has been holed up in the studio working on its long-awaited sophomore album, and will take a break to perform at En Tu Ciudad!!

They have been described as “puro pedo punk rock” and they call themselves “a few beans short of a burrito”…. Ranchero punkers Piñata Protest grew up dismissing Tejano music…but now they take those same traditions, embrace them and make them their own, in a punk-rock way. Even though Girl In A Coma and  Piñata Protest’s members have been friends for a while ( Piñata lead singer Alvaro Salas actually makes an appearance in GIAC’s new video for “Their cell”), this will be the first time they share a stage together.

Also performing live will be Austin’s own Este Vato, which combines Latin rock, hip-hop, cumbia, and reggae with electronic samples. With influences ranging from hard-core and metal to the wide spectrum of Mexican-American music, this young band’s heavy bass and drum beats get audiences moving on the dance floor every time. To top things off, DJs Orion, Manolo Black, Hobo D and Pagame, aka Peligrosa All Stars collective will be spinning. The tremendously popular monthly Austin parties called “Peligrosa,” features tropical rhythms such as reggaeton, salsa and funk mashed with electronica, bass and crunk.

The En Tu Ciudad Tour will continue in cities across the country. We’ll be announcing future dates with stops in Phoenix, Los Angeles and Miami soon!
