No one has seen Former Cuban leader Fidel Castro in public since March, and now we know why. His disappearance from the public eye – which sparked rumors he had died – is due to the fact that he’s in a near vegetative state after suffering a massive stroke, according to Venezuelan physician José Marquina. Marquina, speaking with Spanish language paper El Nuevo Herald claims that Castro had a cerebral hemorrhage that left him unable to feed himself, speak or recognize people.
“He could last weeks like that, but what I can say is that we’ll never again see him in public,” the NY Daily News quotes Marquina as saying.
