Cultura Dura is a Remezcla and Mike’s HARDER content and event series highlighting emerging Latin urban culture. We’ll be exploring scenes that haven’t really gotten any coverage anywhere else – from block parties and street art to underground sports and raw, young artists making movements pa’ la calle.

DJ Melo out of Phoenix, Arizona has just dropped a custom mixtape in anticipation of his appearance at the next stop of Cultura Dura in his home city. The 8-city tour, which features “a new wave of artists who are redefining Latin urban music,” will bring together forward-thinking acts Nina Sky (DJ set), DJ iDenaty, DJ Leo Blaze, plus Melo for the party this Friday, August 22nd at the Sky Lounge.

Starting off with Grupo Soñador’s “El Paso del Gigante,” Melo quickly takes the mixtape into the present-tense– signaling the shift with an airhorn trigger, we’re off into high-energy, hi-hat territory.

Melo’s been in the game for many a minute as a member of the Arizonaton DJ and production crew, and was early to join in the moombahton wave that was birthed around four years ago. He’s also a long-time collaborator with producers like Nadastrom, Sabo, and Munchi, and labels like Sol*Selectas, T&A REcords, Think 2wice, and Rhythm & Culture.

Catch him at the Cultura Dura fiestón on Friday, free with RSVP here (must be 21+).
