The ‘Gilmore Girls’ Netflix Revival Will Include New Peruvian Characters

Even though Alexis Bledel, Liz Torres, and Rose Abdoo all represent different parts of Latin America, they didn’t have a chance to bring their cultural backgrounds to Stars Hollow with their Gilmore Girls counterparts Rory, Miss Patty, and Gypsy.

In one episode, Bledel even had to pretend she couldn’t speak Spanish, because Rory doesn’t speak Spanish.

But now that Netflix has officially confirmed the Gilmore Girls revival, it looks like the story is getting some explicitly Latino characters. E! reports that the show’s new characters will include a Peruvian couple named Berta and Alejandro. Alejandro is described as a “handyman and a solid family man,” and in the deft hands of series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino (who departed from the show’s final season but is thankfully returning for this revival), we’re betting on someone quirky, voluble and charming. Though they have yet to announce who has been cast in these roles, it sounds like a job for Benjamin Bratt, just sayin’. [UPDATE 10/5: Casting information is now available, and the character of Alejandro will be played by Frank Gallegos].

The show is set to return in four 90-minute chapters, premiering on Netflix at midnight Pacific Time on Friday, Nov. 25.
