For those who choose to immigrate to the United States, they do so knowing they may never be able to return home. The immigration system in the United States is a broken mess, with few pathways to citizenship. So if someone leaves – regardless of the reason – they may not be able to return to the life they built in the US. In one viral video, Twitter user @ohjoanaa, who lives in Texas, explains that her mother has not seen her parents since arriving in the US 25 years ago. The short video features Joana’s mom excitedly staring out a window and then answering the door to be met by her mother and father.
