Is it me or is San Antonio Mayor Julián Castro sort of dreamy? Dreamy in that guapo-successful-moral-politician kind of way, right?
Not only was he the first Latino to deliver a keynote speech at the Democratic National Convention last night (WEPA!), but he’s also gotten a lot of buzz overnight for it. He shared (his huge smile! as well as) his and his brother’s personal history as second generation of Mexican immigrants that achieved positions in office.
“My family’s story isn’t special. What’s special is the America that makes our story possible. Ours is a nation like no other, a place where great journeys can be made in a single generation. No matter who you are or where you come from, the path is always forward.”
Touchy story Julián, not to mention, very realness. The 38-year old Mayor added some fire to his Mamá-trabajadora-y-linda Pathos when he riled audiences about the issues that opposing Republican Presidential Candidate Romney would say NO! to, in a fun call-back sort of way:
JC: When it comes to getting the middle class back to work, Mitt Romney says,
Crowd: NO!
JC: When it comes to respecting women’s rights, Mitt Romney says,
Crowd: NO!
(etc.)
Castro stopped short of being mean or bashing too hard on the Republican Candidate, and turned the audience’s attention back to the man of the hour and his achievements, The Pres Obama. Although the San Antonio Mayor’s appearance (almost from obscurity into delivering the keynote speech) mirrored the President’s own moment as Senator at the DNC in 2004, and although hashtag #decastro2016 is already being used, Castro seems focused more on his city right now.
Just making sure our readers know who all the buzz is about cause, y’know, we don’t want anyone to jump to some crazy conclusion like, say, thinking this Democrat Mexican American is Comunisit Cuban Fidel Castro’s son/nephew.
