Miranda! No More

Argentinean perverse poppers Miranda! have cancelled their Brooklyn appearance next week! This would have been the band’s first New York show, (two years too late, in our opinion) as part of the Latin Alternative Music Conference (LAMC). The LAMC kicks off next week and will feature  many acts that rarely perform in the US such as Julieta Venegas, Ximena Sariñana, Los Fancy Free, etc. Even if Miranda! became a mainstream sensation in 2005 with their single "Don"  (album Sin Restricciones, 2004), we were still looking forward to seeing the crazy antics and high-pitched voices of  Ale, Juliana, Lolo, Monoto up close at Prospect Park in Friday July 11th’s Celebrate Brooklyn show, sharing an unlikely bill with New Yorkers Brazilian Girls and Ticklah (de Latino tienen poco.) According to LAMC site, another local group, Chicha Libre, has replaced Miranda!. We love Chicha Libre’s Peruvian cumbia surf (check out their weekly gigs at Barbes, near Prospect Park) but for such a big show, we wanted to see a special, well-known act.

We asked LAMC peeps and publicists and no clear reason was given for the cancellation, in fact, no announcement has been made, but we hear it has something to do with their label in the US, EMI Televisa, which hasn’t been particularly supportive of this eclectic bunch. Last year, Mexican singer-songwriter Chetes was also supposed to perform at Celebrate Brooklyn, but cancelled last minute (Chetes is also on EMI in the USA.. que pachooo?)

Video for latest single "Perfecta" from their album El Disco de Mi Corazón. They recorded a duet with Julieta Venegas for this song and Toy Selectah from Sonidero Nacional also made a cool remix of this track.
