These “Fuck Trump” Tees Are Cathartic Fashion Pieces For Trying Times

Despite wide rebuke for Donald Trump’s narrow vision for the United States, his Make America Great Again hats became a must-have ironic fashion accessory two summers ago. In response, activists and designers came up with their own pro-immigrant apparel – like Jeronimo Saldaña who designed a Make America Mexico Again hat that served as a reminder that before the signing of the  1848 Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo, parts of Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming belonged to the US’ southern neighbor. And just a few weeks ago, during New York Fashion Week, Mexican designer Raul Solis sent models down the runway with underwear that read “Fuck Your Wall” and “No Ban, No Wall.” But perhaps no one has made their disdain of Trump and his politics as fashionable as Isabella Ferrada.

With a series of tees and hoodies emblazoned with the words “Fuck Trump” – all of them written in Gothic font – Ferrada has created Dolores, a cathartic brand for trying times. As Trump looks to vilify people of color, Dolores highlights our community. But this isn’t surprising coming from Ferrada, who’s so proud of her roots. Last week, Vogue featured her in its photo diary titled Latinas in Los Angeles. Model and artist Ferrada – whose makeup and style is inspired by drag culture, and her mom’s and aunt’s 1980s and 1990s looks – describes her friends as “a group of young, queer, woke brown artists.”

Dolores leaves no room for interpretation. Its About page has one simple message: “If you are sexist, racist, homophobic, or a bigot, get out.” Everything about Dolores – which is made in Los Angeles – is a straight up rejection of Trump and what he stands for. The pieces retail for $18 to $30. Buy them here.
