DJ and producer El Dusty (aka Dusty Oliveira) has a mission: to rep for cumbia and his hometown. Hailing from Corpus Christi – known to most as the hometown of Selena Quintanilla – El Dusty’s fusions of traditional cumbia with influences from EDM, hip-hop, and Latin soul have earned him a Latin Grammy nomination and a record deal with Aftercluv Dance Lab, a subsidiary of Universal Music Latin.

In between making music, touring, and throwing parties, the multi-hyphenate Oliveira is also partner at Produce Goods, a store meets gallery meets recording studio headquartered in a sprawling building in downtown Corpus. Produce is where Dusty and a collective of creative, like-minded friends make stuff: clothing, prints, toys, accessories, songs, paintings, and more – all with a distinctive Tex-Mex DNA.

In our second episode of Click & Mortar – a series that follows the digital businesses of young Latino creatives – we caught up with El Dusty to learn about the inspirations behind his work, and how his Samsung Galaxy note helps him manage his many entrepreneurial pursuits.
