One of the most successful – and beloved – telenovelas of all time, Yo soy Betty, la Fea is returning to the small screen. Today (May 8), Prime Video announced that the sequel, Betty la Fea, the Story Continues, will premiere on July 19.

The new series picks up where the original Colombian telenovela left off. After several episodes vying for her boss, Armando’s love and attention, Betty marries him in the last episode, and together they run the company and welcome their newborn daughter. Fast forward 20 years, and now, an “empowered and wiser Betty works hard on rebuilding her relationship with her teenage daughter, Mila, her relationship with Armando begins to deteriorate, making her question if she made the right decision 20 years ago,” says the press release.

The new series will include the original protagonist duo, Ana María Orozco, who played Betty, and Jorge Enrique Abello, who played Don Armando, along with the original cast.

The show is considered by Guinness World Records as the most successful telenovela in history, unfolding across 335 episodes.

Beatriz Pinzón Solano (Betty) is an intelligent, but conventionally nerdy woman who works as a secretary at Ecomoda, one of the largest and most “vogue” companies in Colombia. She falls in love with her boss, Don Armando, despite him constantly disrespecting Betty and berating her appearance to his friends. He shows little interest in Betty, and even feigns attraction to her, eventually falling for his own scheme and actually, truly, falling in love with her.

Yo soy Betty, la Fea has aired in 180 countries, dubbed in 15 languages, and has been adapted in up to 28 territories, including India, South Africa, and the U.S. And if you’re looking for more, you can watch the first look teaser for it below.
