Academy Award nominee Demian Bichir will return to English-language television thanks to FX Productions and Shine America. Bichir and co-stars Diane Kruger, Annabeth Gish and Ted Levine have been in El Paso since November filming the pilot for “The Bridge.”

In the pilot episode, Bichir plays Juarez-based homicide investigator Marco Ruiz who teams up with detective Sonya North (Kruger) from El Paso to hunt down a serial killer after he dumps one of his victims on one of the roads that make up the Bridge of the Americas. Directed by Mexican director Gerardo Naranjo (Miss Bala), the show is adapted from the Scandinavian series I Bron, The Bridge by Homeland‘s Meredith Stiehm and Hawaii Five-0‘s Elwood Reid. If anyone else is as hooked to Homeland as we are, they know to expect something really good.

Bichir was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor earlier this year for his portrayal of undocumented gardener Carlos Galindo in A Better Life. He didn’t the Oscar but he won our hearts.

Let’s hope this pilot gets picked up! Bichir will also appear alongside Danny Trejo, Sofia Vergara, Antonio Banderas, and others in Robert Rodriguez’ Machete Kills due in theaters next year.
