Maritza is moving up in the world. Don’t worry, Diane Guerrero is not being released from Litchfield any time soon (we hope, we couldn’t really live without Flaritza in our lives), but the actress just signed on as a series regular for Superior DonutsThe CBS sitcom is set in a donut shop in a rapidly gentrifying Chicago neighborhood. It centers on the odd couple-esque relationship between the shop owner, Arthur Przybyszewski (Judd Hirsch) and his young new entrepreneurial employee Frank Wicks (Jermaine Fowler) who keeps wanting to modernize the place.

Joining the upcoming second season, the Orange is the New Black and Jane the Virgin actress will be playing Sofia, a young Uptown gentrifier who parks her food truck, which serves healthy, socially conscious breakfast foods, in front of Arthur’s old-school donut shop. Of course, Arthur assumes she’s an entitled millennial, but this wouldn’t be a Guerrero-role if it didn’t push back on facile assumptions. As audiences (and Frank, who’s smitten) will learn, the food truck owner is actually a hard-working, enterprising, self-made woman who has poured every penny into her food truck business, which she plans to turn into an empire.

“We’re huge fans of Diane’s work on Orange Is the New Black,” writer and executive producer Bob Daily said announcing the casting. “And we’re excited to be introducing her as a young entrepreneur who moves into the neighborhood, driving Arthur crazy and catching Franco’s eye.”

While we were hoping we’d get to see the drama show Guerrero was developing, In the Country We Love, which is based on her poignant memoir about her life after her parents were deported, we’re happy she’ll be gracing our screens and telling yet another story about a young Latina making her way in the world.

Superior Donuts‘ season two premiere airs on October 30, 2017 at 9:30 p.m. on CBS.
