Mexican actor Diego Luna is amazing. We know this. He’s not afraid to speak his mind about political issues (or turn down a seat in the Mexican senate). He’s about to lead the next season of the Netflix series, Narcos, taking the show to Mexico where he’ll play the founder of the Guadalajara cartel. And that’s not to say anything about his adorable bromance with best friend Gael García Bernal. But Luna keeps moving forward and his next project has just been announced.

In a recent article published by Deadline, Luna is set to star alongside Sienna Miller in Wander Darkly. A “magical realism love story” about a couple dealing with the effects of a car crash. The film is written by Tara Miele who, up to this point, has worked in television and directed Lifetime movies. There’s no additional information about who Luna will play, though the feature is set to start filming in L.A. this year.

On the surface this project sounds similar to the 2005 feature Stay. Like Wander Darkly that movie also featured a car crash and a weird world of surrealism involving life and death. The word “magical realism” is fairly loaded to the Latinx community, conjuring up comparisons to the work of Isabel Allende and Gabriel García Márquez, so it’s unclear if this movie will adhere to that genre convention or is just being used to describe a world where things don’t make sense. Regardless, Luna has been leaping around with his films of late and even if Wander Darkly isn’t an enourmous hit, (like Rogue One) it should entertain his fans and push him further towards regular box office success. If anything maybe it’ll push that long-gestating Scarface movie forward?
