There’s no such thing as too much EJO. So for those of us binging on reruns of Battlestar Galactica and endless special editions of Blade Runner between weekly episodes of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. we have some very welcome news: Edward James Olmos has been cast in the co-starring role for the upcoming Sons of Anarchy spinoff Mayans MC.

That’s right, a year after it was formally announced, Mayans MC (the project’s working title) has it’s first major casting news and some more details on the plot. According to the latest, Olmos will take on the role of Felipe Reyes: a Mexican-American OG who’s trying to walk the straight and narrow while his son EZ prospects for the Mayans.

The show will pick up precisely where Sons of Anarchy left off, although show creator Kurt Sutter has suggested on previous occasions that the tone and style of Mayans MC will be markedly different. Still, we do have a pretty good sense of what we’re dealing with from SOA’s characterization of the murderous Mayans and their salacious underworld activity.

So far FX has only ordered a pilot of the show, meaning Mayans MC still has a long way to go before it makes its way to our screens in a weekly serialized format. But with the SOA brand behind it, we’re betting this one will be on your DVR queue before too long. Of course, if the title Mayans MC doesn’t make the final cut, you can always try looking it up under Bad Hombres. These guys more or less seem to fit the definition.
