Mexican director Guillermo del Toro is becoming so ubiquitous you just expect to see him everywhere: action figures, movie theaters, even Alka-Seltzer commercials. Now, the two-time Academy Award-winning director is set to make his mark on the prestigious Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce just announced the names of the directors, actors, and other creative talents in film, television, recording, and theater set to receive a star on the Walk of Fame in 2019, of which del Toro is one. He joins actors Alan Arkin, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert De Niro, and five others all being honored for their contributions to the film world.

With so much talk happening around diversity in Hollywood it’s great to see del Toro join a group of talented (and ethnically diverse) people. The Walk of Fame is more of a tourist attraction nowadays where recipients often pay for the privilege of having a star ceremony, usually meant to coincide with a project they’re releasing. In del Toro’s case this sounds like an actual move to honor a director who has give audiences so much, both on-screen and in person. It’s also important to note that just because a star is being given doesn’t mean there were will be a set ceremony the public can see. Recipients have two years to schedule a star ceremony before the honor “expires” and some can politely decline the honor. So don’t go booking a trip to Hollywood just yet in the hopes of seeing del Toro get his star.
