SXSW Film just made its first wave of programming announcements divulging a few titles making up their slate this year. Things look good on the Latino front so far. The centerpiece of the film fest is the world premiere of Chef playing the Opening Night slot. After years of directing big-budget Hollywood fare, the Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau is returning to his indie roots. (He is the man we have to thank for the jewel that is Swingers.)

Favreau not only wrote and directed the comedy but stars as Carl, an emotional chef who loses his restaurant job and buys a food truck in an attempt to revive his career. Sofia Vergara plays his estranged ex-wife. The cast also includes funny man John Leguizamo alongside Scarlett Johansson, Bobby Cannavale, Dustin Hoffman and Robert Downey Jr.

The most exciting reveal came from the film conference. Amongst panels and discussions will be A Conversation with Alejandro Jodorowsky, the Chilean filmmaker known for his crazy, wacked-out psychedelic cult films like El Topo, The Holy Mountain and Santa Sangre. After not making films for almost 25 years, Jodorowsky premiered his surrealist, autobiographical work The Dance of Reality last year at the Cannes Film Festival. Did we mention he likes to make videos of himself, talking about his films… while naked? Knowing Jodorowsky this will be the most entertaining and/or disturbing thing happening at SXSW. We can’t wait!
