The Bachelorette’s Devin Strader confirmed his Mexican heritage during the last episode of the show, and the internet was abuzz with the news. The Season 21 contestant, whose full name is Devin Anthony Hernandez Strader, shared with this season’s Bachelorette Jenn Tran, that his father immigrated to the United States from Mexico, but admitted he hasn’t had much contact with that side of himself, as he was raised by a single mom.

From his intro video, we know that Devin is from Texas and was raised alongside a younger brother by his mother, who he considers his hero.

“My family-oriented mindset came from the way I grew up. I didn’t grow up in an easy life. My mom is a single mom,” Strader said on the show. “To me, my idea of a perfect life is a happy household with kids and a happy family. That’s the biggest thing for me. People staying together.”

Strader, who is a graduate of LSU, shared more of his heritage on his first one-on-one date with Tran on this week’s episode of The Bachelorette, which aired July 29th. In the episode, the two bonded over not growing up as connected to their heritage as they would have liked while learning more about the Māori. Tran is of Vietnamese heritage.

The internet was equal parts thrilled and surprised at Devin’s Mexican heritage, with comments ranging from “YES MEXICAN KING.”

To the more heartfelt: “Finding out Devin has Mexican blood is soooo heartwarming even though he didn’t get to experience much of our culture, it’s great to see a Latino on screen especially a good guy like him.”

Without forgetting the jokes about the fact “we’re all shocked that devin is half mexican”

The Bachelorette airs new episodes Mondays at 8/7c on ABC.
