Melissa Barrera’s Your Monster, a rom-com horror that made its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, has finally gotten a release date – and an official trailer.

Written and directed by Caroline Lindy, Your Monster follows a “soft-spoken actress” named Laura Franco whose life is crumbling around and is just going through the motions. As described in the official synopsis Laura “finds her voice again when she meets a terrifying, yet weirdly charming monster living in her closet.”

In the trailer, we see Barrera as Laura Franco hug the delivery man, and then proclaim “he broke up with me, and now my life is over,” as we see her mope around her apartment, lamenting a relationship that ended. Then, the aforementioned monster comes in. Except, even though Barrera does seem scared, the scary vibes suddenly shift to something more resembling a rom-com than a horror film. Are people the real monsters? Is the monster actually …the love interest? And is he a better alternative than the man who looks like the typical romantic hero stereotype?

The movie is one of the most high-profile roles we’ve seen Barrera in since she was fired from Scream 6, where she played Sam Carpenter in the last two Scream movies. The reason for her firing? Her social media posts in support of Palestine.

Spyglass Media Group, the production company behind the Scream movies, released a statement at the time regarding Barrera, which read: “We have zero tolerance for antisemitism or the incitement of hate in any form, including false references to genocide, ethnic cleansing, Holocaust distortion or anything that flagrantly crosses the line into hate speech.”

Your Monster is set to hit theaters on October 25th and you can watch the trailer below.
