From the World of John Wick, Ballerina is the first spin-off film in the John Wick franchise that focuses on Ana de Armas’ character Eve Macarro, an assassin and ballerina trained in the Ruska Roma, the same place as Wick. The film has been highly anticipated, even with very little explanation, save for the basic premise. And the first trailer delivered exactly what fans were looking for in terms of an action-packed revenge story in the John Wick style.

The trailer opens with Ian McShane’s Winston, a mainstay in the John Wick movies, talking to a young Eve after she’s lost her family, offering her a place to learn to dance. From there, a montage of her training showcases de Armas’ brutality in the role as well as her mission to find the people who killed her father and return the favor.

Much of the trailer showcases the impressive stunt work, most of which is done by de Armas herself and ultimately leads up to a team-up with Keanu Reeves’ John Wick. Though his return was known, it was a plotline that was never teased or set up in past entries prior to Ballerina.

Like Reeves, de Armas did her own stunts and spoke on how difficult they were and the pain it caused. However, what got her through was Reeves’ lack of complaining, which motivated her to keep pushing herself. It’s easily a step up from her previous role in the James Bond film No Time to Die, but de Armas proves that action movies are a niche she fits perfectly into.

The cast of Ballerina includes Ana de Armas as Eve Macarro, Ian McShane as Winston, the late Lance Reddick as Charon, Anjelica Huston as The Director, Keanu Reeves as John Wick, and Norman Reedus and David Castañeda in undisclosed roles.

From the World of John Wick: Ballerina hits theaters on June 6th, 2025.
