Cafe de la Esquina opens in a familiar Williamsburg spot

The long empty Wythe Diner has recently found itself with a little more sabor. Chef Akhtar Nawab of the Kenmare Street staple La Esquina (where the Remezcla estaff was known to indulge their late night cravings after events at The Spot) has taken up residence in the retro establishment to create a Brooklyn location. The casual main room opens today, and on 8/12 they’re set to open their reservations only, super fancy back room. At some point in the coming weeks, the outdoor seating section – pictured above, which you may have seen walking down Wythe or in a vision inspired by that statue of the Virgin – will open as a taqueria/margarita bar. Brunch will begin in September, but the restaurant will be open until 2AM.

Check out the menu. If the Manhattan location is any indicator, this is going to be a great spot for late night eats. But can it compete with Williamsburg’s bevy of Mexican food trucks? We’re excited to see.
