Word on the foodie street is that a brand new Mexican tapas joint has arrived in SoHo. Brought to us by the team behind Mexican-Japanese fusion spot Taka Taka, this cozy spot – called Antojería La Popular – will serve small plates of ceviche and tostadas, alongside twelve varieties of Mexican hot chocolate (perfect for these frigid days). Everything on the menu sounds yummy, but the dish that caught our eye? The Oaxaca, consisting of toasted crickets on a blue corn tostada.

I, for one, can’t wait to try it, but for those that think eating bugs is best left to Fear Factor contestants can go for the standard chicken-mole-queso tostada.  Antojería La Popular will also have a to-go window serving blue-corn tortillas and quesadillas along with corn in a cup and Mexican sodas.

The eatery is slated to open today, and will be offering all-day happy hour of Mexican beer & sangría through January 26th. Let’s checkirao!
