Sindicato de Cocineros: Williamsburg's Hidden Gem

This cozy upscale Mexican spot opened quietly about six months ago right on the border of Williamsburg/Greenpoint, and has kinda been flying under the radar ever since – know about it!

Just across Mcarren Park, Sindicato de Cocineros brings an eclectic menu to the already-taco-truck-populated Bedford Ave. Even during the winter season, they manage to keep their red onion and cilantro guacamole fresh, and decently portioned as far as gourmet appetizers go. They have platos pequeños like a serving of Tamal with chile Poblano and Maitake mushrooms, dressed with Mexican crema and salsa de árbol. Their selection of tacos also falls under platos pequeños and range from stripped bass fish tacos to grilled and marinated mushroom tacos. On the larger plates, the season’s menu includes the raved about Lechón Bresado, a braised suckling pig with snow peas, pistachio pipian & chorizo rice. Surprises such as live DJs, seasonal spicy Sandía salad and Muscovy Duck & chorizo-bean purée special are bound to pop up here and there. For something around $18-$24, Sindicatos makes for a neighborhood gem. If you want to get in on the action but find that your wallet is sore, drop by from 5-7 for their $1 Fish Taco happy hour.
