Young Lords
If you haven’t checked out the citywide exhibit about the Young Lords at Museo del Barrio and the Bronx Museum of the Arts, you should definitely take a peek at these rare and vintage photos, posters and audio/video recordings of the organization that demanded the governments in NYC and other metropolitan areas to acknowledge and share basic resources with the Latino population in the era of the Civil Rights Movement. This particular arm of the exhibit is focusing on lesser known aspects of the Young Lords like transgender activist Sylvia Rivera, artivist Eddie Figueroa and his artspace, and the endeavors of the Gay and Lesbian Caucus. The show will be up until October 10th.

Breaking Surface
In this exhibition the idea of water as border is explored through photography. The mermaid-like photos of Spanish artist Aldara Ortega are included as well as artistic shots of unlikely perspectives of Niagara Falls by Jonathan Godinez. Visit the reception this Thursday August 13th from 6 to 8pm to get thinking about the theories of this vital element in all its forms.

Homefield Advantage: Ronny Quevedo
As part of Ronny Quevedo’s show Homefield Advantage, a one-time performance will be held this Tuesday August 11th from 7 to 8:30pm. His work is about the “psychological and emotional dimensions of time, space and place.” Quevedo challenges the boundaries of memory and attempts to reimagine the meaning of time through “shape, form, construction, reaction, experience, beliefs, and emotions.” There are some very heady concepts going on in this show. Those who believe in time travel will be more than welcome. The show will be on view until September 23rd.
