Young New Yorkers Silent Art Auction
Young New Yorkers is a new organization keeping 16 and 17 year old kids out of the arms of the criminal justice system through art programming. This Wednesday they will be hosting a silent auction to raise money to continue their mission to put art tools into the hands of at-risk youth. Do some good for your community’s youth and support Young New Yorkers by attending the auction or donating what you can. Tickets start at $35 and will guarantee you admission into an art show with an amazing and substantial group of artists as well as booze and a good-hearted art crowd. Artists of note include MISS VAN, Melanie Cervantes, Tatyana Fazlalizadeh, Queen Andrea, Mata Ruda, Marthalicia Matarrita, Gaia, Grafica Mazatl, Lunar New Year, Don Rimx and many many more. Did I mention MISS VAN donated a piece to the auction!??!!??! It will be this Wednesday from 6 to 10pm.

A View of the End by Catalina Viejo Lopez de Roda
Catalina Viejo Lopez de Roda created a bunch of miniature paintings of celebrities’ booties. The derriere is not usually the angle taken by painters, photographers or artists when depicting the famous so this might be quite an interesting take on fan art. Most of the paintings were created from grainy paparazzi pictures where the starlet was not aware the photo was being taken. Lopez de Roda aims to use the awkwardness evoked in the photos as a comment on viewer boundaries. The reception is Friday April 3rd from 6 to 9pm in Williamsburg.

Wrapsody: Anton Alvarez
Chilean Swedish designer Anton Alvarez has a residency and show at Salon 94 Freemans which will begin this Wednesday. He has created a Thread-Wrapping machine, which he uses as his tool to create works. The machine adheres glue and thread to plastic, wood, fur, felt etc. to create various furnitures. He will be using the machine in the gallery space for patrons to view his art-making process. The gallery is open Wednesday through Saturday 11am to 6pm.
