Alexandre Keto
Long-standing LES lounge Sunita Bar is hosting an exhibit of works by Brazilian graffiti artist Alexandre Keto. Most of Keto’s murals honor experiences of people of the African diaspora. His work is spiritual and seems to come from a place of gratitude for the Earth and the feminine. The bar will show some of Keto’s works on canvas, but you can also see his murals on the gate of Sunita, and in Harlem on Frederick Douglass and 126th on the Amsterdam News Building. The mural shows two female figures sitting under a tree that drops leaves on their faces. Sunita will be showing his paintings until the end of the year.

Crazy Years: A Contemporary Interpretation of Art in New York During the Roaring Twenties
Tuesday October 20th, Emory Arts gallery will transform into a speakeasy that serves vodka cocktails and exhibits contemporary art focused on themes that influenced art of the roaring 20s. The show is in the spirit of the 1920s when people gathered to rebel against Prohibition laws. There will be art by Argentinean artist Andres Giles, Cuban artist Alejandro Tejeda, and Guillermo Perez. But just as the 1920s-style speakeasies required passwords, so will this show. Fernando Botero: Beauty in Volume II
Colombian favorite Fernando Botero has a show of works in the Crown Building on 5th avenue in Manhattan. Botero has his own style called ‘Boterismo’ where he paints plump figures with exaggerated dimensions in pleasant positions and environments. The show will be up October 22nd through December 22nd.
