Here I Am: Photographs by Lisa Leone
Bronx-born photographer Lisa Leone was an artistic contemporary of an array of early hip hop intelligentsia, such as Nas, Snoop, and Grandmaster Flash. Because of this she had photographic access to some intimate settings that made for great photographs. She has shots of LL Cool J, The Fugees, Eazy E and many more classic hip hop figures in low-key locales. These images of celebrities don’t have that fashion photoshoot vibe; they’re familiar and informal and really dope. Leone has also shot for British Vogue and VIBE and went on to eventually shoot video and work on Stanley Kubrick’s last film Eyes Wide Shut. This exhibit will feature rare images of hip hop’s inaugural icons and will be on view until January 11, 2015. The museum is open Wednesday through Sunday 11am to 6pm except Friday when they extend their hours to 8pm.

Crossing Brooklyn: Art from Bushwick, Bed-Stuy, and Beyond
Not many know that the borough of Brooklyn has one of the largest concentrations of artists in the world. This show features work by 35 artists who are from or work in Brooklyn and attempts to show the intergenerational qualities, the diversity of background and variance of themes and mediums. Some of the Latin@ artists of note include Pablo Helguera, Miguel Luciano, Daniel Bejar, and Paul Ramirez Jonas. This survey of work produced in and by the Brooklyn environment will be on view through January 4, 2015.

Depth of a Substance
Succulent Studios, a space that caters to street art, is having a huge group show of work that asked artists to submit pieces that used oil as a medium. Artists hailing from various parts of Latin America and the U.S. are Dasic Hernandez, Mata Ruda, Joseph Martinez, EVOCA1, Ricardo Cabret and others. Depth of a Substance will be up until December 20th.
