Between its affordable menu options and its ability to experiment with what you can stuff into a tortilla, we understand why people like Taco Bell. But the fast food chain cannot earnestly consider itself Mexican cuisine. Yes, it drew inspiration from Mitla Cafe – the San Bernandino restaurant where Lucia Rodriguez served cheesy versions of Mexican foods – but Taco Bell should not live within the Mexican food category. And yet, in a recent Harris Poll survey of the top Mexican restaurants in the United States, Taco Bell took home the title.

More than 77,000 people participated in the survey, according to KCRA. The chain beat out Moe’s (last year’s winner), Del Taco, Baja Fresh, and Qdoba. But as Taco Bell – which recently became the fourth-largest fast food chain – celebrates its success, people on Twitter had lots of opinions, ranging from sadness for everyone missing out on delicious Mexican food to people reworking headlines to tell us how they really feel. Check out a few reactions below.
