Saveur recently wrote that the “difference between a good pupusa and bad one isn’t all that huge,” which is to say, it’s difficult to mess up the savory Salvadoran treat. But perhaps, they didn’t have 7-Eleven in mind when they published these words. Since at least 2013, the convenience store chain has been serving pupusas in places like California and Washington DC.

As internet dwellers, this somehow eluded us, even though this has been going on for YEARS. 7-Eleven pupusas have filled Twitter users with lots of thoughts – ranging from disbelief to acceptance – but there’s no real information on them online. This means we may never get an answer about why 7-Eleven decided to delve into Salvi territory, but if location is any indication, then the chain offers the dish in cities with considerable Salvadoran populations.

Unfortunately, we don’t have much in the way of answers (but if you do, please let us know in the comments), but here’s what those who have seen pupusas in their unnatural habitat have to say:

First reaction: WTF?

Then, it's natural curiosity

There's a lot of mistrust

But people work up the courage to eat them anyway
