The scream that was stuck in the throats 32 million Peruvians for more than 36 years was finally unleashed today, as Andre Carrillo scored the nation’s first World Cup goal in nearly four decades. It didn’t matter that the team was already eliminated. After so many years, all of Peru could finally scream GOOOOL. (A scream they echoed when Paolo Guerrero scored a second goal.) Now, the embattled player who almost missed the tournament can return home with the satisfaction of giving his people a reason to smile and a memory to treasure.
