Remezcla gives you a breakdown of the who’s who at the 11th Annual Latin Grammys. Each week we’ll bring you a new category and some interviews with the nominees themselves. Check out the contenders below, some stats and singles, and let us know who you’ll be rooting for. GUSTAVO CERATI
Fuerza Natural

El Album: Released in September of 2009, Fuerza Natural is Cerati’s fifth solo studio album. It went gold in his native Argentina and has sold over 500,000 worldwide.

Grammy History: Previously won in 2006 (Best Rock Album & Best Rock Song).

Notas: Gustavo Cerati is best known as the lead singer of Soda Stereo, considered by many as one of the most influential rock bands in Latin America. He is currently recovering from a stroke he suffered on May 15, 2010.

BOHEMIA SUBURBANA
Bohemia Suburbana

El Album: The band’s fifth studio album was released in January of this year and lands them their first Latin Grammy nomination.

Grammy History: First nomination.

Notas: The band formed in Guatemala, but its members hail from Guatemala, Peru, and Colombia.

ANDRES CALAMARO
On The Rock

El Album: Two decades into his career, Andres Calamaro released his 23rd album (!!) On The Rock which quickly became a hit in his native country of Argentina and in Spain.

Grammy History: Previously won in 2008 (Best Rock Album).

Notas: Since breaking off from Latin rock band Los Abuelos de la Nada in 1985, Calamaro has released a solo record almost every year. Additionally, he released seven albums with Los Rodriguez from 1991 to 2001. He has sold over 1.3 million albums.

CHETES
Hipnosis

El Album: Mexican rocker Chetes (Luis Gerardo Garza) is three albums in as a solo artist with Hipnosis after three records with Zurdok in the late ’90s and one with Vaquero in 2004.

Grammy History: Previously nominated for “Completamente” in 2006 (Best Rock Song).

Notas: Wilco drummer Ken Croomer produced Chetes’ first solo album, which went on to a Gold certification in Mexico. Since then, he has released the follow up Efecto Domino and most recently the nominated Hipnosis and has collaborated with Meme del Real from Café Tacuba, Amaral, Hello SeaHorse, and Zoé.

VINILOVERSUS
Si No Nos Mata

El Album: Released only digitally, Si No Nos Mata is the band’s second album.

Grammy History: First nomination.

Notas: From Caracas, Venezuela, VINILOVERSUS has performed at South By Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, and have opened for Franz Ferdinand. Both of the band’s albums are available for free download on their Web site.
