Angela Aguilar has a pretty big task ahead: She’s planning to cover Lady Gaga’s “Shallow” for the Grammy’s YouTube channel, a performance that’ll see her playing piano while singing in English. It sounds nerve-racking, but the 15-year-old daughter of Mexican legend Pepe Aguilar revealed that getting approval for the performance was more terrifying – specifically because she had to get approval directly from Lady Gaga.

In an interview with Ventaneando this week, Aguilar explained that her mother had told her a rendition of “Shallow” would be difficult because they would need the green-light from the song’s creator, a.k.a. Lady Gaga. Some time later, Aguilar heard that her team had contacted Lady Gaga and that she was reviewing whether or not Aguilar could do it.

“I was like, ‘Mom, why are you telling me this? If she says no, I’m going to be destroyed,’” Aguilar said.

Luckily, Gaga liked what she heard. Aguilar excitedly shared that the pop icon said yes and told her to practice because the show was on. “I was like, ‘Madre mia, I’m going to die,’” Aguilar laughed.

She’s not a total stranger to major Grammy showcases; she’s done her version of “La Llorona” at both the Grammys and the Latin Grammys in recent years.
