Free Download: Brownout – "Oozy"

Brownout may have started as a side-project by the members of Grammy-winning Grupo Fantasma (who also happened to play as live backup band for Prince, yes, the purple one), but it has become its own entity with its own cult following.

While on Grupo Fantasma, they explored the tropical side of Afro-Latin nostalgia. On Brownout, they got to express their love for ’70s raw funk and soul with a distinctive Latin twist (think War, Mandrill, Willie Bobo, etc).

Oozy” is the first single out of the equally titled upcoming third album (their first on Nat Geo Music) and is one of the few songs in the album with vocals. Most of their music is in fact instrumental and very cinematic, you just have to close your eyes and be transported to a car-chase scene from an exploitation movie. The fact that they’re not being picked up for soundtracks boggles my mind. Anyway, make sure to catch them live this week while they tour in promotion for this release, full dates way below.
