When Cardi B posted a video denouncing Trump’s call for federal employees to return to work without pay last week, chances are she wasn’t expecting to spark a controversy among conservative commentators. But over the weekend, Fox News host Tomi Lahren criticized the Bronx rapper’s video and views on the government shutdown, calling her “the latest genius political mind to endorse the Democrats. HA!” on Twitter. Cardi fired back at Lahren, claiming she would “dog walk” her if she didn’t leave her alone.
“I’m sure you would,” Lahren responded. “Still doesn’t make your political rambling any less moronic.” Cardi then dubbed Lahren a “sheep,” writing, “You’re so blinded with racism that you don’t even realize the decisions the president you root for is destroying the country you claim to love so much. You are a perfect example on no matter how educated or smart you think you are you still a SHEEP!”
The plot thickened when a Twitter user named “White Bread” joined the conversation, asking Cardi if she would pay for his insurance. The Invasion of Privacy star tweeted in response, “[I’m] paying about 4 million in taxes this year so most likely I am Paying for your insurance ….That’s if your favorite president don’t take my tax money for his wall Mr. white bread.”
Even Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a fellow Bronx woman and political darling of the left, tweeted her support for Cardi. “Why do people think they can mess with Bronx women without getting roasted?” she wrote. “They act as though our borough hasn’t been perfecting the clapback since the Sugarhill Gang.”
