In the words of the grand sir Plato, “At the touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.” Mexican fronteriza songstress Carla Morrison has come a long way since her departure from Arizona’s indie-rock band Babaluca and has matured into a remarkable young poetess. Besides gaining high recognition from the likes of Juan Gabriel, and earning a Latin Grammy nomination, Ms. Morrison reaches a profound sound within her songwriting and timber of her voice which resonates underneath the skin of a listener, perhaps one who’s eager to love again, bringing shivers up to my spine, and admittedly, a tear. “Hasta la piel” is Carla’s second single off her sophomore album Déjenme Llorar; a truely gorgeous, romantic polka ballad about love and heartbreak, and the radiant things it inspires. The video for it, directed by Benjamín Estrada, really captures that sentiment; love at first sight and the fear of losing it. It’s a splendid work of art.
