Daddy Yankee is adding author to his resume. Today (Sept. 4), the Puerto Rican reggaeton icon announced he will tell his life story in an upcoming book.

Daddy Yankee is known as one of the pioneers of reggaeton. In the ‘90s, he first made his mark in the genre after appearing on a few of DJ Playero’s mixtapes. In April 1995, Daddy Yankee’s debut album No Mercy followed. He later teamed up with Nicky Jam as the duo Los Cangris in 2000. Twenty years ago, Daddy Yankee was the spark that lit the fuse for the explosion of reggaeton on a global level with his album Barrio Fino and the song “Gasolina.” He is set to revisit his past in his memoir ReaDY! The Power To Change Your Story.

“I am very excited to present to you the first physical copy of my book where I share many personal experiences, life testimonies, and many lessons I have learned throughout my life,” Daddy Yankee shared in a post on X.

ReaDY! The Power To Change Your Story will be released in English and Spanish in April 2025. The rights to the book were acquired by HarperCollins Publishers, who will publish the Spanish version, while Dey Street Books will take on the English market. After wrapping up his La Última Vuelta World Tour in December 2023, Daddy Yankee announced his retirement and became a man of God. He is also expected to open up about that latest chapter in his life in his upcoming book.

“Raymond Ayala Rodriguez is a pioneer in the music world and a cultural ambassador,” Carrie Thornton, VP and publisher of Dey Street Books, shared in a statement. “As an author, he will have the opportunity to speak to his millions of fans, and a legion of readers, in a more intimate and in-depth way than he ever has before.”

Daddy Yankee’s memoir is now available for pre-order on his official website. Last month, Barrio Fino and five more of his albums were made available on vinyl
