Every true lover of real hip-hop out there agrees on this one axiom: J Dilla was the greatest beat producer of all time.
Among these real hip-hop true lovers we can find French-Chilean femcee Ana Tijoux (who actually went our of her way during her first visit to Los Angeles to visit J Dilla‘s grave at the local cemetery) and her turntablist, DJ Dacel, who’s also a dope producer who follows the same aesthetics imposed by the deceased Detroit hero. During their US tour, Ana and Dacel stopped in Detroit and met J Dilla’s lil’ brother Illa J who’s also a rapper and as a result from that came this collaboration where Illa J starts his verse saying “Chilling in Chile” (lolz) while this other dude named Frank Nitt fools around with a birimbau.
The video came out today to commemorate the date of would-be Dilla’s birthday if he was still around. He may be gone, but his legacy is very much alive all over, even in odd places like Chile.
