Back in April we gushed over Fernando Milagros’ video for one of San Sebastián’s standout tracks, “Soltar.” That album came out in 2011 and now he’s released San Sebastián Remixes Vol. 1, which carries, you guessed it, remixes of San Sebastián tracks. We heard El Sueño de la Casa Propia’s take on “Angelito” and now we can judge Algodón Egipcio’s attempt at reinventing “Soltar.”
“Soltar” is spatial enough on its own, but Cheky elongates the song’s momentum even more, only to distort our sense of the original toward the end by adding some messy, frantic rhythms for the finale. It’s a risky move that paid off. Download it below.
