“EL TIGERASO (STICKY K REMIX)”
We were really stoked when we saw her for the first time at SXSW, and then back in New York, we saw a little too much of Maluca at shows practically every week. The girl works it! The Domini-yorker has been anointed as the next big thing in the Mad Decent label universe, and that is taking her to the hipster-sphere faster than you can say mangú. She sounds like hyped-up merengazo with double entendre lyrics and fierce attitude, usually with cowbell in hand! Similar to Miti Miti, Maluca has a unique, transcultural sound and look that is very clever.
While she is still working on her debut album, Maluca has just released an EP of “El Tigeraso,” which includes the original version produced by Diplo, plus remixes from Feadz, Gantman, NGUZUNGUZU, and Sticky K, whose version you can download gratis aqui.

La Maluca Mala has been all over her native NYC, as well as Los Angeles and San Fran lately….but in the next few weeks she’ll be bouncing around Vancouver, Paris, London and Dublin with the Mad Decent crew.

FORRO IN THE DARK-
“PERRO LOCO”
Straight from the North East of Brasil, Forro in the Dark, was conceived in the damp darkness in the sweaty skin-to-skin wall-to-wall club, Nublu, down on Avenue C in the East Village (home to Brazilian Girls, Kudu and countless others). They have since been playing some of the most popular merry-making booty-shaking Wednesday shows NYC has ever seen. While their music is packed with traditional instruments, like wooden flute, triangle and congo drums, Forro in the Dark’s music is really an entrancing jam of many different rhythms, from rock and reggae to jazz and all with one objective: to get your hips swiveling.
This charming Brazilian quartet led by Mauro Refosco has gone beyond NYC to the world, and are gracing us all with a brand new album. Light a Candle is packed with sunny, high-spirited tracks and is due for release in October on the new National Geographic label, Nat Geo. If you have the chance, do not miss them live, for there’s not another party where you will boogie down so hard. When they’re in New York, they still performe on Wednesdays at Nublu (see above, last week.)

HELLO SEAHORSE! –
“BESTIA (JULIETA REMIX)”
Last week we were raving about this Hello Seahorse track and how Julieta Venegas was such a a fan. Little did we know La Juli got so carried away in her love for “Bestia” that she went where La Juli had not gone before: remixing. On her very quirky Twitter page, she shared the news of her very first remezcla and how the band had really liked the version, asking followers where she could post it. Club Fonograma came to the rescue and posted it on their (very excellent) blog for the world.
As for Julieta news, she seems busy twittering, as well as appearing on several friends’ albums, such as Natalia Lafourcade’s Hu Hu Hu Hu and on two trakcs on Brazilian artist Otto’s forthcoming album Certa Manha Acordei de Sonhos Intranquilos (out in September on Nublu Records)

QUANTIC Y SU COMBO BARBARO –
“UN CANTO A MI TIERRA”
Seems many are the British musicians and producers who fall in love with Colombia’s rich musical landspacape. Exhibit 1: Richard Blair and Sidestepper. Exhibit 2: Will Holland aka Quantic with his several pseudonyms and countless projects. Perhaps better known for his band Quantic Soul Orchestra and his collabo with Nickodemus “Mi Swing Es Tropical,” the DJ, producer, musician now presents his Combo Barbaro.
Based in Cali, since 2007, Quantic fuses many folkloric rhythms from Colombia in this new production. Besides “Canto A Mi Tierra,” sang by Nidia Gángora, from the Pacific Coast, You can download “Arianita,” which is more Brazilian-based.
