Governors Ball Might Go Extinct, Thanks to New York Coachella

Back in June, we pointed out the fact that New Yorkers don’t really have their own Coachella-sized music festival yet, even though the people behind Governors Ball have done what they can to change that. Now, the New York Daily News reports that Coachella organizers AEG Live are thinking of bringing a new festival called Panorama to Queens.

The New York Daily News adds that the festival will take place two weeks after Governors Ball, which means Governors Ball may be SOL. “The timing of this corporate-run festival would threaten our ability as a small business to continue putting on the kind of event that has showcased the best artists, created hundreds of local jobs, and put millions of dollars back into the city’s economy,” said Founders Entertainment’s Tom Russell. Governors Ball has brought $40 million to New York City.

AEG declined to comment on the rumor, so we’ll keep you posted. But we’re hoping that at least one of the festivals will feature more Latino artists on their lineups.

Update, 10/16: Gov Ball has blasted AEG for their proposed NYC festival, and they are asking supporters to sign a petition, which you can do here if you so please. Read the screenshot of the email below:
