I saw Kinky once in Chicago, I think for my birthday. It was this massive Mexican lunacy at the massive Congress Theater. I was super geeked, but daunted by the amount of people in the crowd. I’m used to smaller, more intimate settings for shows. We stuck to the back, close to one of the bars and just soaked in the splendor of the show. My girl, Cristina was wearing this stellar frilled cowboy getup and who knows what hipster rags I was in. Kinky is that kind of band I guess. The kind that really sticks with you. I don’t remember having a blast at the show, or even knowing too many of the songs except for the classics. But, Kinky does that to you. These guys make hits. It’s what they do best. “Intoxícame” off the their latest album Sueño de la Maquina (#SDLM) features a killer intro and dance-a-thon beat that definitely don’t hurt any. It’s just like Kinky to slip their cool, Depeche Mode meets Daft Punk synths in the background, and rial on intoxicating lyrics. These guys, plain and simple, know what they’re doing and do it well.
