Solletico‘s “Valentina” opens like the pink and orange sunrise of some spaghetti western I’ve seen 1,200 times (but only because it was on when I was deadly bored): the sun’s light glinting cold and bright from the polished steel of our hero’s six gun; but the song drops the galloping brass as quickly as it can to take up lyrics that press forward and forward through, regaling us with a tale that ends up mocking the deadpan opening perfectly. Anyway, it’s not the best track from Solletico y el hombre de la casa—I’m a bigger fan of “Ofelia“—but “Valentina” is a treat.
