Miguel Teams Up With Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas For an Emo Rock Ballad

2015 was pretty strong year for WTF collaborations, so much so that sometimes it seems like we’ve seen the worst of it already. Although we’re still in the first leg of the year, we already have a few strong contenders for strange duets. With apologies to Carla Morrison and Macklemore, we have a new eyebrow raiser of note.

The Argentine duo Illya Kuryaki and the Valderramas have teamed up with R&B star Miguel for a slightly off-brand track (for both acts) called “Estrella Fugaz.” Instead of the smooth funk/R&B sex jam this meeting of the dirty minds might have spawned, we got a saccharine pop rock power ballad. They have also shared a lyric video, which you can watch below. As a bonus, Miguel will perform with Dante Spinetta and Emmanuel Horvilleur at this weekend’s Lollapalooza in Argentina.

Miguel is no stranger to 90s alternative music straight outta MTV. On his latest album Wildheart, not only did he feature Lenny Kravitz on one track, he also gave a songwriting credit to the Smashing Pumpkins on his song “leaves,” since it was inspired by their hit “1979.” If only the Valderramas could have locked in Billy Corgan for “Estrella Fugaz,” we might have ended up with the most WTF in the history of WTF collabs.
