In case you didn’t know, Barcelona’s Ojos de Brujo ceased to exist about two years ago. However, the loyal fanbase they accumulated during their decade-long tenure as leaders of the flamenco mestizo movement is not yet willing to let go.

A Barcelona-based Danish DJ by the name of Al Lindrum was one of those fans and a personal friend of the band. After he found out about the unfortunate break-up, he embarked himself on a mission: to put together a collection of remixes that worked as a tribute to the band and at the same time, hopefully, revive popular interest in them and maybe help bring them back together.

He got a hold of five original tracks of their back catalog, and with the help of Denmark’s UrbanWorld Records (the label that introduced us to the Viking cumbia, among other global bass improbabilities), they compiled this collection of 13 tracks, to be released worldwide on June 28th. Besides the remixes of Al Lindrum himself and the expected contribution by Viking cumbia pioneers Copia Doble Systema, the playlist includes reworks by some other familiar names like DC’s Empresarios, Latin-funk band Makala and Los Chicos Altos, whose remix we’re premiering here today as a free promotional download. The remixes range from ñu-cumbia to house, to dubstep, and drum-n-bass; enough to please pretty much anybody, but specially to please the fans of Ojos de Brujo, like our editora.
