As we wrap up the year, here at Remezcla we are taking a look back to our favorite Latin music Downloads of 2009!  Here’s your chance, in case you missed it, to get a recap of our Free Downloads in Latin Music series.

Click on for free downloads this week from Rita Indiana y Sus Misterios, Rupa & The April Fishes,  Cineplexx, and Pacha Massive, as well as what they’ve been up to recently.

RUPA & THE APRIL FISHES-

“CULPA DE LA LUNA”

Let’s kick it off with a band that is not strictly Latin music but which represents Latin culture and thoroughly surprised us with its catchy tune, “Culpa De La Luna.”  From Northen California, Rupa and the April Fishes have different backgrounds and influences– including Rupa herself, an MD, now lead singer who speaks French, English and sings in Spanish!   After their last show of the year in San Francisco the 19th of this month, Rupa and The April Fishes will be on the other side of the world in cities such as Salzburg and Munich with their new album Este Mundo. We can’t wait to hear more from them and their latest projects!

CINEPLEXX-

“MEJOR (COPACABANA MIX)”

Cineplexx, a.k.a. Sebastian Litmanovich, has incredible talent and we instantly understood this when we heard his latest single, “Mejor.”  It’s easy-going, sometimes even nostalgic– but in a good way!  If you haven’t already, check out the video, which Remezcla premiered on the web.   This Argentinean lives now in Spain but is constantly updating his website and blog with the latest on his sophomore album, Nuevahola, so keep checking back.

MOJARRA ELECTRICA-

“EL HUECO”

Ah yes, Mojarra Electrica.  Featured last week in our Latin Music Free Downloads, we STILL can’t get their song, “El Hueco,” out of our heads.  Maybe that’s not such a bad thing, as it gets us up and dancing during those crazy work hours and heavy studying!   If you’re into the idea of “world music” at all, this is a must listen.  Having recently finished some shows in London, Mojarra is back in their hometown, Bogota, Colombia, performing.  No word out yet on whether or not they’ll step foot on U.S. soil soon but hopefully 2010 brings us their amazing live music shows so we can be a part of the “Mojarra-Electrica-Experience.”  They look like a lot of fun.

PACHA MASSIVE-

“IF YOU WANT IT”

We have to bring back  Pacha Massive‘s “If You Want It,” because this is another tune you can’t get enough of.  The chorus is catchy and makes you want to sway your body and bop your head…En fin, it’s just damn good Latin music.  You couldn’t expect much less from Pacha.  And– might I add, there’s a promo video for this single circulating the web (also check out that mangu t-shirt, haha).  As of now, no word on any upcoming shows, but we do expect more promotion of the new album, also called  If You Want It, which just came out in November!

RITA INDIANA Y SUS MISTERIOS-

“HORA DE VOLVER”

While we love all the artists we feature on Free Downloads, the prize of “what the carajo/woah/this is rete-cool” prize goes to Rita Indiana y Los Misterios.  Futuristic Merengue?  Que say what?  We didn’t think it was possible in Latin music!  Well it just so happens that Rita Indiana’s passion has been integrating different sounds she loves and making it all work into something that could very well be the next new genre in music.  And it’s not just because it’s different, it really is catchy, ironic and danceable.  So, thank you, Rita Indiana y Los Misterios, for making your roller coaster of catchy, new and progressive Latin music.  It’s thanks to artists like these that we are constantly shaping a whole new Latino-Americano culture.  We hope this next year, 2010, brings us not only new artists that have yet to perform in the U.S., Rita Indiana included, but also great new music to get us going daily.  Happy Año Nuevo everyone, hasta next time!
