Free Download: Spike Devil Disco – “Cumbia Malicia”

If you’re a regular reader of Remezcla, then you’re most likely familiar with the many iterations of cumbia that artists are pumping out these days: ñu cumbia, neo cumbia, space cumbia, etc. I’m gonna go ahead and add voodoo cumbia to the list for this latest track by Mexico City’s Spike Devil Disco (a.k.a. Gerardo Cabañas). “Cumbia Malicia” certainly lives up to its name. It’s a spooky cumbia track thanks to a heavy synth line that plays throughout the first minute. It fades out allowing a few drums to take over the “channeling of spirits” before jumping back into the action. It’s almost as if Black Devil Disco Club (no relation!) decided to spend some time in the jungles of Mexico (yes, foreigners, there are jungles in Mexico) with a couple of high priests.
