So here’s something we missed back in January. UK trio IS TROPICAL released a digital EP titled Flags boasting four tracks titled after Latin American countries. Peru, Venezuela, Colombia, and Mexico are all well represented, but these songs don’t exactly scream folkloric accuracy. They’re more like loose associations at the hands of electronica-loving Londoners. Latin America has never sounded so cold.
The EP is a bridge between the group’s first and second albums, the latter coming out this Spring via Kitsuné. In the meantime, listen to IS TROPICAL’S version of our stomping grounds. “Venezuela” and “Mexico” are my personal favorites.
