As part of their greatest hits/tribute album, cumbia sonidera legends, Los Ángeles Azules, have teamed up with everyone from Ximena Sariñana to Vicentico from Los Fabulosos Cadillacs to reinterpret the best songs of their career. Now the floor belongs to Kinky, who accompany Los Ángeles Azules with their cumbia meets hardcore electro version of “Cómo te voy a olvidar,” a song about—what else?—unforgettable lovers with red, sensuous lips.

Over the years, Kinky have proven to be adept at making killer covers, their best (in my humble opinion) being “Tres Heridas,” the Bronco track that they turned into a disco jam. Now, side by side, Los Ángeles Azules and Kinky have reworked “Cómo te voy a olvidar” into a schizophrenic dance anthem that goes from electro rock to cumbia to trap and back in the span of five minutes. The hook of the song is the strong accordion sample from the original recording, which glues the mashup of genres together. Coincidentally, that’s also the call to every cumbiero to polish that dancefloor.

That’s also what the video is ultimately about. It features a strange character-–which one YouTube commenter compared to PSY of “Gangnam Style” fame—judging a line of women on their dancing skills. He tests all of them until he finally chooses the lucky gal who gets overshadowed by a massive dance party by the end of the clip. Meanwhile, the supergroup plays on until a weird, merengue-like break unleashes Kinky’s brand of norteño bass fury with one of the most subtle yet effective drops I’ve ever heard. While the song is a little bit all over the place, it’s still a banger, so make sure you dust off those dancing shoes.
